Frequently Asked Questions About Landscaping Services in the Twin Cities

You want a beautiful outdoor space and a team you do not have to chase down or worry about. Before making a decision, it helps to know what to expect from the process, how we work, and whether we are the right fit. Here are the answers to the questions Twin Cities homeowners and property managers ask us most.

Is River Heights the Right Fit for Your Property?

What makes River Heights different from other landscaping companies?

We have been doing this since 2007, and most of our team has been with us for years. We do almost everything in-house with our own crews rather than subcontracting work out, which means you get consistent quality and the same familiar faces on your property.

What services does River Heights offer?

We handle landscape design, construction, maintenance, irrigation, and outdoor lighting for residential and commercial properties. Our design team includes landscape architects with Master’s degrees from the University of Minnesota, and our installation crews include foremen with 10+ years of experience with our company. Whether you need a complete outdoor transformation or ongoing care for an existing landscape, we manage it all under one roof.

Do you work with homeowners, businesses, or both?

River Heights works with both homeowners and businesses. On the residential side, we serve homeowners who want high-end outdoor spaces without having to manage multiple contractors. On the commercial side, we partner with property managers, HOAs, and senior living communities who need consistent, professional service they do not have to think about.

Where does River Heights provide service?

River Heights serves the Twin Cities metro and beyond. Our projects span from Woodbury in the east to Wayzata in the west, and we have built long-term relationships with clients throughout the region.

What kind of projects are you not a good fit for?

We are set up for long-term relationships, not quick one-off jobs. If you are looking for a partner who will design, build, and maintain your landscape over time, River Heights is a great fit. If you need someone for a single small task with no ongoing relationship, we may not be the right choice.

Are you the cheapest option?

We focus on doing the job right with experienced crews and quality materials. Our clients come to us because they want it done well the first time and they value working with a team they can trust for years to come.

How Does the Process Work?

How do I get started?

Reach out through our website or give us a call. From there, we schedule a time to visit your property, walk the site with you, and talk through what you are trying to accomplish. After that, we put together a proposal that outlines scope, timing, and investment so you know exactly what to expect.

What happens during the first visit?

We walk your property together and look at layout, drainage, existing plantings, and how you use the space. We ask questions about your goals, your lifestyle, and what has or has not worked in the past. This helps us recommend an approach that fits your property and how you want to live in it.

Who will I be working with?

You will work with the River Heights design and project management team throughout your landscape project. Once work begins, you will see our installation or maintenance crews on site. Because we keep most of our work in-house and have low turnover, many of our clients see the same crew members year after year.

How long does it take to get a proposal?

For most projects, we can get you a proposal within a few days of our site visit. We do not rush the process, but we also do not leave you waiting.

Design and Construction Questions

Do you create a design before starting construction?

We develop detailed design plans before any construction begins. Our design team includes landscape architects who create plans showing layout, plantings, hardscape, lighting, and irrigation so you can see exactly how your space will come together. There are no surprises.

Can you handle both the hardscape and the planting?

River Heights manages the entire project including hardscape and plantings with our own team. Patios, retaining walls, plantings, irrigation, lighting, and finishing details all happen under one roof. You do not have to coordinate multiple contractors or worry about finger-pointing if something goes wrong.

What if I want to do my project in stages?

Many of our clients phase their projects over time. River Heights designs with future phases in mind so everything connects naturally as your landscape evolves. You might start with a patio this year and add plantings, lighting, or irrigation down the road.

How long do construction projects typically take?

Construction project timelines depend on scope. A walkway or small patio might take a few days. A full outdoor living space with multiple elements might take several weeks. After our initial conversation, we give you a realistic timeline so you can plan accordingly.

When is the best time of year to start a project?

Spring and summer are the busiest seasons, but we can start planning and begin work in early spring or extend projects into fall. The best time to reach out to River Heights is before you need the work done so we can get you on the schedule and plan properly.

Maintenance and Ongoing Care

Do you offer ongoing maintenance?

Many of our clients start with a design and construction project and then move into ongoing maintenance so their investment stays protected. River Heights also works with property owners who just need reliable maintenance without a construction project first.

How often will your crews be at my property?

How often landscape crews are on the property depends on your landscape and your preferences. River Heights offers weekly and custom schedules based on what your property needs throughout the growing season.

Will I see the same crew each time?

We do our best to keep crews consistent. Because we have low turnover and most of our team has been with us for years, our clients often work with the same people visit after visit.

Do I need to be home when your crew is there?

As long as we can access your property, the River Heights crews handle everything. We keep notes on your account so your preferences and any special instructions are followed every time.

What if your crew notices a problem while they are there?

If we spot an irrigation issue, drainage concern, plant stress, or anything else that needs attention, we let you know and talk through options before doing any additional work. Catching problems early saves you money and headaches down the road.
