Layered Stonework With A Garden-Filled Slope
Boulder and Bloom
This landscape reshapes a sloped backyard into a layered garden setting with natural stone, strong planting masses, and clear transitions between the home, deck, and lawn. The design turns the grade change into a defining feature rather than a limitation. Boulder outcropping retaining walls create large planting terraces across the slope, giving the backyard depth, movement, and a natural sense of progression. Natural stone retaining walls add structure near the home and frame the outdoor living areas with a lighter, more refined edge. The planting design blends naturalized textures with more formal groupings. Ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, shrubs, and clipped evergreens bring contrast across the slope, while the vegetative privacy screen gives the deck and upper terrace a more enclosed feel. The finished landscape feels established, vibrant, and connected to the architecture.
